invertabrates are animals with no spines, or vertibrates. sponges also dont have any internal organs.

sponges protect themselves by having dense bones, to hook to rocks. most sea animals dont bother them much.

the body of a sponge has two outer layers separated by an acellular (having no cells) gel layer called the mesohyl (also called the mesenchyme).

Sponges are filter feeders. Most sponges eat tiny, floating organic particles and plankton that they filter from the water the flows through their body. Food is collected in specialized cells called choanocytes and brought to other cells by amoebocytes. They also eat sea bacteria.

sea-sponges live in fresh water, and cling to sea rocks and coral on the sea floor.
