I've downloaded several files, but when I try to transfer the files to my iTunes library it says that my file is wmv and cannot be converted?

In your windows click to view your files as thumbnails, if you see a picture, then its a movie if you an icon then its a music file usually.

The first thing you should know is that a MP3 is an audio file and the WMV is a video file. When you use Bearshare you have to specify the files you want, in the left panel you select audio, video, books, pictures, ...whatever, so if your looking for audio then select audio. When the matches start coming out check the file extension which is mp3, wma, ogg, wav, etc. In fact, you can choose if you only want to download MP3 files by selecting the audio file type in the same panel using the advanced search.

The extension of the file is what gives it away. Files are named like this: name_of_the_file.???
The three ??? after the dot are the extension. For a wmv file, it would be whatever.wmv
Also, if you're using Windows, you may have it configured to hide extensions. To change this you should open any folder (like My PC) go to Tools menu, Folder options... and in the tab View look for an option that goes like "Hide extensions for known files" or sommat and unmarked it.
I'm Argentinian, so I use a spanish version of Win XP, therefore I'm not sure all the menus are named like I told you.
