I am writing a script, and I am trying to think of symbols that would represent the idea of trial and error. It could be a famous book that relates to this, or some kind of photograph of a historic person or event that has to do with this idea.

life is one big trial and error. there aren't symbols for trial and error specifically. if you use an example, it would also stand for many other instances. especially when dealing with a very public issue. it would bring the specific error of their ways into focus, rather than your relation to trial and error.
