The two are not mutually exclusive.

Democracy is majority-rule, which in practice can easily become might-makes-right mob rule.

Fascism is a govt model, favoring conservative totalitarion control, and opposing personal liberties. Don't take my word for it -- look at a dictionary.

Democracy (pure or a democratic republic) can easily become fascist if those supporting fascism are in the majority. In fact, the only think capable of preventing that is some over-arching legal authority, such as the Constitution.

Absent that authority and protection, both democracy and fascism can result in persecution of any minority group.

Here's a nice quote by Dr. Joseph Goebbels, Hitler's propaganda minister (and thus a Fascist): “The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth becomes the greatest enemy of the State."

When you distill it down it seems to imply that the presence or absence of a free press is the key to maintaining or destroying a democracy, or creating a fascist dictatorship.

A country CAN be Democratic AND Fascist. Hitler was elected. Most people wouldn't recognize Fascism when they see it.

The U.S. is a country that is exhibiting a new kind of Fascism. At the heart of Fascism lies the marriage of corporate and government power, mixed with authoritarian control over its citizenry. Those things we have in abundance.

This is not a forum for a 25 page thesis or debate. It is just a place for people to get help with some normal problems. Look it up.
