It has been so long since I've done this, and I'm not 100% sure I know what the correct format is.

Can anyone help me out here?

Do you mean framework? Here is the type of framework I have had to use.
-Exciteing beginning
-Opinion statement
-1st reason
elaboration and evidence
-2nd reason
elaboration, evidence
-3rd reason
elaboration and evidence... and so on
( In one or more of you're paragraphs should have statistics depending on what the paragraph is about.)
-Restate opinion statement, but in different words
-summarise you're reasons
-closing statement or encouraging to take action
hope this helps

In a persuasive, you have to be sure to make statements of fact that will convince the audience. For example, when writing an persuasive essay as to why you, as a student, are against school uniforms, you might convince the principal by saying that parents wouldn't have to spend time and extra money trying to find the correct pants and tops. By saying, uniforms aren't cool, the principal may care less!

I have my students organize the following way:

Paragraph 1 - Introduction: Make the reader aware of the topic that you will be discussing and your opinion.

Paragraph 2, 3, and 4 - Body of essay: Each paragraph should state a reason you are for or against the issue with at least 2 to 3 examples. For instance:
2 - Uniforms are a big expense for many families.
3 - It takes extra effort to keep them clean and pressed.
4 - Students may feel as if the school does not appreciate their individuality, thus lowering self esteem.

Paragraph 5 - Restate your opinion and briefly restate the three reasons you are for/against this.

Hope this helps,
Mon :-)
