I went to local computer shop to upgrade my RAM to 2GB, but the guy running the shop told me that my motherboard will burst if i put that much of RAM. So, he suggested me to use 1GB. Before that i was using 512MB, added another 512MB making it 1GB.

I strongly dislike folks who put a sign out and say they will 'fix' problems for people, when really, they are going to rip off everyone! He lied to get a sale on some overstocked or reduced price RAM! Shame on him!

He took advantage of your lack of knowledge, which is NOT the proper way to conduct oneself!

1Gb sticks might have worked, IF your board will accept them! Some older BIOS chips (before 2002?) don't function for 1Gb sticks... Best of luck!

In that case where the Bios doesn't work for the 1gb stickes, update the bios

Well clearly he is not talking any sense. your mother board wont burst.

but If your mother board is too old for the 2 gb of Ram then probably its not supported.

you should go back to him and talk to him properly and explain that he is not talking sense at all or may be best request him to change it with no additional charged ( New Ram Costs apply )

WOW.... that guy has no right to work any where near computers. If you put too much ram in your pc, the most inconvenient thing it will do is just not recgonize it. you should go tell that man he is an IDIOT.

Hi. The guy probably was overstocked on 512 units. No, it will not burst.

Total nonsense.
Go back there & ask him to explain exactly how the motherboard will "burst".
