With the rush to Ban gay marraige in all U.S. states, repeal civil and Human rights for Gays and the constant assault by the religious right, What is the future of an estimated 10 % or more of Americas population? Gays pay taxes and contribute to the health and wholeness of american society. Given the meanspiritedness, what is the intention of those who oppose Gay people?

America is a confused nation so we should feel sorry for their confusion. They are trying to get back to a time when there were strict family values, probably like the early pilgrims, which we know will never happen. If what you suggest happens it would cause civil unrest on a scale which would be unimaginable. It has too many ramifications to even ponder what the outcome would be. I would not loose any sleep over it because I doubt very much it would really happen. There are far too many expert constitutional lawyers in the US that would challenge any attempt to revert back to illegal and antiquated laws which allow for that to happen. I suppose some of those red necks would vote for slavery to be reinstated. The Christian fundamentalists would love the law on civil marriage to be reversed, but even they don't have the majority of numbers ever for it to be considered.

Yeah, the ten percent thing. Thats like 30 million people. How can that be considered a minority? So many questions run through my mind when thinking about that number. The Holocaust, roughly 6 million, roughly 12 per cent of the US population is African American. Just thinking about all the others seeking rights, gaining rights, nationality, faith, gender, I guess orientation is the final frontier we as a people need to overcome. face it, orientation transcends all other designations, and that is a little scarey to face, because, well, in overcoming orientation bias just maybe we will realize at last that we're basically all the same and there is nothing to fear.

I don't know about this in detail (being from the UK myself), but I had heard something along these lines & I find it shocking & disturbing. America is meant to be the land of the free isn't it? You can't claim that & then pick & choose which ones are allowed to be free. That's no different to what Hitler did with the Jews. It makes me wonder what sort of world we are living in & if it is even safe to live as an openly gay person. Next they'll be sending us to the gas chambers.

I looked up one of the States's constitutional ammendments concerning Gay Marriage. Surprisingly the ammendment VIOLATES TWO OTHER ammendments in that state's constitution, but the court still said it wasn't a violation.

Basically they're going to make it illegal to be gay, so what's next, illegal to be African-American? Or White? Or Mexican?

And yes they ARE trying to take away as many rights as possible from Gay people.

I wasn't aware that America was reneging on their proposed civil rights for gays. Some people want badly to get married, and leave the gay lifestyle. What about you?

There is no intention there at all. It's all just the closed mindedness and ignorance of very small people who need to have some one to complain about and point fingers at, so that they don't have to look at their own inadequacies.

Move to England. We love your accent. And we can marry (fine, get civily partnershipped or whatever, not quite as catchy though). Well, not you and me, but theoretically...

The intention is to deter people from choosing to be homo. (Yes, I know, it's not a choice... just trying to answer your question.)
