1. Write about a military officer sent to a suburban home to notify a wife that her husband has died in combat. This would be a very emotional scene and would warrant much description.
2. Write about a young man returning home from many years in the military. Describe his feelings as he sees his parents front yard, walk, door, flowers, trees, etc. What feelings is he experiencing? What expectations does he have? How has he changed since the last time he was home?
3. Write about a boy picking up a girl for a first date. What emotions does he go through on his walk to the door? Does he feel confident, inadequate, sick, uneasy, worried, etc? What expectations does he have of the date?
Good Luck!

Okay, here are two ideas....one happy, one sad.
1. You are a Western Union telegram employee with a telegram for a family telling them their son was killed overseas. Talk as if you are this person and what you are feeling. You don't WANT to do this, but it's your job. FEEL what it would feel like to knock on the door of perfect strangers and tell them the most horrific, sad, personal news.......
2. You are about to pop the question to your BF or GF and you purchased the ring a month ago. You've decided that today's the day. You are nervous, afraid, happy, excited and then you knock on the door.... and someone you don't know, answers it wearing a robe and bed hair......

yeah, what the first person said. except add in why he is nervous about knocking on the door. maybe it held bad past memories for him, or maybe a scary person lived there and it's like a haunted house, or maybe just a person he once knew well, but he drifted away from, or maybe he did something bad and needed his help. Or maybe it's the house of a girl he likes, or maybe it's somebody he reveres deeply and doesn't want to make a fool of himself in front of them, or maybe it was someone who was mean to him and he wants to make a truce. You can do this!

Oh my god--just write a page (technically, half a page) about someone getting up the courage to knock on someone's door.
Develop your character (who is "he"?)
What kind of building/home is he walking up to?
Why?
Etc. etc.
