I've had both and let me tell you cable is so much better. When I had DSL, I would have to shut it off nightly and sometimes during the day. With cable, I can remained connected for weeks at a time. The only time I have to shut the system off is when I think about it. Page refreshes is so much faster with cable. Also, the cable doesn't go out in rain and bad weather like DSL does. Cable all the way!

It's sort of a push - but I'd have to say cable.
With cable it's like a party line with everyone in your area, you all share the bandwidth back to the cable headend. If nobody is using it you get like 10Mbps all to your self. If a lot of people are using it your sharing that 10Mbps which can effect your performance - typically during prime time (7-10PM).
With DSL you get dedicated bandwidth back to the DSL headend, but the bandwidth is usually much less than cable. Typical ADSL (90% of the US) is 1.5Mbps to 3Mbps. DSL is very sensitive to distance, the further you are from the headend, but worse the bandwidth.
DSL usually requires you to pay for the DSL service plus a seperate service provider fee. For example Qwest could be your DSL provider ($25/month on your phone bill), but joeblow.com is your service provider ($25/month payed to joeblow). Be careful of the hidden charges with DSL.
By and large, DSL is cheaper than cable overall.
I have cable.
The best thing, if you can get it would be fiber to the home. Verizon sells it, it's called FIOS.

depends on what you need it for and what you like. do you want speed ? do you want cost effectiveness? does you area have fiber optic cable yet? generally cable is always faster than dsl. dsl is through your phone line and cable is through your cable line. the differance is which cable can handle more thruput. cable can. right? in theory yes. but i was told soo i just have never tested it myself. think of it this way also. the phone company deals with just audio basiclly. on thier wires. but the cable company has always been set up to handle video and audio. now. 1 or 2 or 1 or 1+1. as in a one lane road or a 2 lane road. try cramming 2 lanes of cars on a one lane road. dsl? then cram 2 lanes on 2 lanes. which system is more suited for the purpose? then consider this ... do you like which company better? cable or phone or which service provider? then do you just surf the net or do you use music andpicture capabilities? surfing the net dsl is great. downloading and uploading cable is great. the cable a lot of times is offered in 3 speeds with 3 prices. i had all 3 and yes all 3 are faster or slower. espically depends on your computer set up. do you even have a cable or ethernet jack or slot or plug in the back of your computer? or just for phone line? a card for cat 5 or ethernet is as low as $10. do you get on once a week or once a day? i get on every day. currently while out of town on travel i use clearwire. but i like cable the best. some places will bundle the price and the bill of your cable tv and internet and phone for a cheaper price since you have all three. and yes when i had vonage it was the bomb and it worked great. but now i dont even have a house phone. also. i have worked a plethera of jobs to include jet engine mech and construction auto body auto mech , adavanced avation electronics tech. etc. soo im not just tyelling oyu what sounds good. im saying this is what i have done.

This will depend on your area and your providers.
I have Insight Broadband (cable) 10 Megs per second and download up to 6 times faster than DSL and 170 times faster than Dial-up. You do share bandwidth with neighbors. I had looked into getting DSL but around here it can't even compete. About the only thing I will miss about moving...We will be going with a company that will give us Broadband but since we will be rural we will loose the speed. 25 to 30 times faster than typical dial-up services and it is cheaper than DSL, Cable, or Satelite. Just check with your local providers and see what their speeds are...and make sure you check their prices.

Dsl:
The Dsl is better due to the fact that its basically an upgrade from cable, it loads faster, and works more effiently and plus, you can talk on the phone and be on the internet at the same time, without tying up the phone lines.

Cable is faster. DSL barely works unless you live 50 feet from the phone company's local station.
My Cable gets around 4 Mbps on average. My g/f DSL gets around 1.2. We are both paying for the same speed. Plus, when it rains her connection seems to kick off.

Cable is better in terms of speed.
If you are the type that likes to surf the net non-stop, cable is the cheaper way in that sense. Otherwise, DSL should do just fine.
However, the setting up of cable connection can be expensive.

Cable has the better bandwidth. DSL cannot handle the downloads as quickly. If you really use the internet a lot and want top quality go with FTTH (Fiber to the home). The other two are incomparable to FTTH.

Cable. The quality and speed of DSL is directly related to how close you are to the office. If you are on the edge, your internet will be sluggish and not very valuable.

I love dsl but I've never had cable so can't compare the two. I haven't had any problems with it yet.
