you definitely can go to a doctor - but make sure its a shrink, and ask to get some self-esteem - seriously though, this should not cause this much stress, its not normal

1. Remember when you were little and you liked it though? :)
Try to have a little fun when you're in the water or go swimming with friends outside of class and just have fun.

2. Actually, according to a major research article, people don't usually have an allergic reaction to chlorine. Long story, but we develop an allergy to all the other stuff in the pool. Since many Olympic swimmers even have asthma, I don't think a doctor is going to be real sympathetic.

3. For your hair, try a leave-in conditioner.

4. In locker rooms at the local pool? The last thing I'm looking at is other people. Most folks look at the clock and change under towels or in stalls.

5. In the pool at the pool? Everyone is too busy and in motion to really notice anyone else.

Forget about getting out of swimming. It is the best thing you can do. Best to try and get your PE class last period so that you can go home and not worry about your hair etc.

What I would suggest that you do is join a gym now and start swimming laps. You might not be able to do one or more laps at first, but it will make you stronger and you will build up your strength. It will also speed up your metabolism. and help you tone up your body . Wouldn't it be great to start high school in a great body? It is possible. Give yourself a life style change. No more junk food. Eat healthy and eat at least three small meals a day and three of four small healthy snacks. It isn't all that hard. By the time you start high school you could be a real knock out. You have more control over your life than you realilze. You need to get rid of those negative thoughts that you fill your head with.

If you think you are stressing now.....think about next year and the year after and the year after that when you are content eating potato chips and cola and crying because you are too fat. You have the power to change it.

I have seen people lose 50 pounds by changeing their habits.

YOU CAN DO IT

As you go through life, you will find out that there are a whole lot of things that you are forced to do that you detest. Get used to it.

Fact: There are still some colleges that have a physical education requirement for graduation that includes swimming. That's right there are some major colleges where you cannot graduate until you can pass a swimming test.

Well you can't swim in a cast. If you can get a doctor to lie I would be surprised. They are not going to risk their license so you don't have to take swimming classes. I don't think ear problems would work as you can wear earplugs.

Why don't you just swim a lot this summer. Tan up tone down.
Its only 8 classes. Its not like someone is taking pliers and pulling out your fingernails or anything.

I am 27 years old. I am very fit and healthy. However I HATE long distance-running. I have fairly large breasts, which get sore however many bras I wear. My teeth ache after running due to constantly breathing cold air through my mouth. Also every time I have completed a long-distance run (1 mile or more) I get hives and I feel flu-like symtoms. Quite often I develop a cold a few days later (I think it has to do with the stress on my body supressing my immune system). I really do hate it.

When I was at school we had to always do 4 long-distance runs over the winter term (it was stipulated by the national curriculum). We did not know which lesson the teacher would spring the runs on us. I use to do everything to get out of it when I thought it was run day. Usually I'd end up in the sick bay.

Anyway my point is this:

I recognise now that nobody could have actually physically made me run round that track. They could only shout at me/tell my parents and have them shout at me, but if I didn't do it, they couldn't make me. If somebody told me to do that run now I would be strong and say NO. I wouldn't even change into my running shorts. I was (and still am) very interested in physical fitness, but I knew that these runs were not doing me any good at all (4 a term was not enough for any training benefit, only enough to shock my immune system and make me ill).

So, if you can find the courage, refuse to do the swiming lessons. I think it is a good idea to be able to swim, so as long as you can actually do this, I don't see the point in dipping you in chlorine every week, if you don't enjoy it and it causes you problems.

In the final year of high school we didn't have to follow the same curriculum due to exams, and we got to do aerobics in our phs ed. lessons. I loved it! Maybe you could campaign for this at your school. You will still be getting the exercise prescribed by the government, but in a form that is more likely to give you a love for exercise and carry it on into adulthood, rather than give you a permenant aversion to it.

Hang tough and make a stand. I think being forced to strip down to a bathing suit when you don't want to is kind of an invasion of personal privacy. I know plenty of adults would refuse to do this (possibly some of the ones who will try to force you to swim).

Ear infections or swimmers ear with great agony after swimming might cause someone to get out of swimming classes. No need to stress honey, this too shall pass.

Most girls pretend that their period is the week of swimming.

A bit of exercise won't kill you, suck it up. If I were your teacher I would take no excuses. No sympathy here.
