there isnt just on reason why every teenage pregnancy happens, there are a number of reasons:
1) troubled homelife - if there is a troubled atmosphere at home (ie parents divorcing or a death of someone close) teens can feel vulnerable and therefore more likely to have sex.
2) peer pressure - teenage friendship groups these days seem to be about who does what (ie have sex, take drugs) and many teenagers will feel pressured into doing things that there friends are doing (or at least "claiming" to be doing)
3) drugs & alcohol - after consuming drugs and/or alcohol teenagers arent in control, then they usually do more risky and potientially dangerous things that they might normally avoid doing.
4) "love" - many teens mistake sex for love and think by having sex they are securing there relationship by pleasing the other person.
5) parental morals - many parents will have different rules and morals about what is right and wrong (ie use of drugs, drinking alcohol, staying out late)
6) rebellion - many teens see underage sex as a chance to rebel against there parents wishes
7) education - teen pregnancy is a lot more likely to happen if the teens havent been properly educated about reproduction and contraception.

hope this helped xx

I was a teen mom. I can honestly say my situation was pure stupidity. I thought I was grown so I was going to act grown. Nine months later I had to be grown. I've been a mom ever since.

Thought I might add that I wasn't like some teen moms, my mother never touched my kid. She let me know from the get go that this is my kid and MY responsibility. I got up with her at night. I took care of her when she was sick. I went to school and kept a full time job to care for her. (It helped that my high school had an on-site daycare center) It propelled me to grow up and take a look around.
It also brought me to God. Without my teen pregnancy (I was 16) I wouldn't have gotten saved and changed my life. I have now been married for 5 years, and have two beautiful kids. God has been good to me.

After reading some of the above answers let me add that I was educated in preg prevention. I was just ignorant and didn't use it.

My parents are not to blame. I actually conceived in my own home while my mom was at work. (i'm ashamed of that) My mother, my father, and my school were not the problem in my case. As I said before, I thought I was grown. Stupid.

Actually, teenage pregnancies are down statistically. It may not seem like it because it is in our face more nowadays with the media and technology and such. It is certainly a problem!! These kids need to be educated by family and school about the responsibility that sexual activity brings. Ignoring it makes it worse...

Actually, teen pregnancy is down, compared to several years ago. Teen pregnancy will always be an issue because teenagers are exploring their sexuality and birth control is not 100 percent effective. However, more teenagers are having safe sex, which accounts for the drop in teen pregnancies.

i can see it is something done carelessly, when teenagers do that, they just don't think when they do, but that's not saying that all teenagers dont think. sometimes theres a problem with a condom, that can always happen and its not always their fault. when it comes to parenting, what a child does isn't reflected by what a parent teaches them. a parent can tell their child not to smoke, drink, and have sex until they're blue in the face, but you know what? teens are still going to do it. main cause is teenagers just want to be teenagers. teenagers are teenagers and they dont want to listen to their parents. what would happen if parents said, go drink, smoke, and have sex? hmm.....

Parents need to teach their children to have high morales and that for every action there are consequences. I also believe parents should tell their children the truth about sexual activity and not let them discover half truths from their friends. Parents should monitor movies, friends, TV and computer usage. Children should be encouraged to make healthy life choices. Also, parents must be open and willing to communicate without being appalled by their childrens' questions and/or their curiosity.

its because most parents are too busy with thier own lives to worry about what there children are doing.maybe if they would stop to talk to there teenagers and get there daughters on birthcontrol there wouldnt be so many teenage pregnancy's.another thing is most parents let there teenagers do whatever they want when they should be strict and put there foot down and remmeber there the parent and stop letting there teenagers run over them
