I definitely agree. However, Daniel Snyder won't let him do that. Most fans want to see passing these days and the media only promotes teams that pass alot (remember last season how the Ravens were ignored or how the Jaguars were ignored the year before.). Daniel Snyder wants the Redskins to be a popular team with the media. He cannot realize the obvious. If you've got 2 RBs like Clinton Portis and LaDell Betts, you should run the ball 40-50 times a game or more and pass about 15-20 times. That's common sense. Alot of teams wish they had 1 running back. Washington has 2 and yet they still try to go with a pass-heavy offense.
Something isn't right in that picture.

Because in todays NFL, the offensive line Joe Gibbs had in Washington in the 80's would count as 50 million against the salary cap. No way in todays NFL do you have a Jacoby, Lachey, Grimm, Mark May, and Schlereth, together on the same team. That is 5 perrenial pro-bowlers. Then top it off with a Joe Theismann, Doug Williams, Jay Schroeder, Ernest Byner, John Riggins, the Smurfs etc, etc. In today's NFL you are lucky if you get half that talent available to you. Not to exclude a Darrell Green, Charles Mann, Dexter Manley... (no salary cap with this team).
Three front line QB's on the same team? '83 they did. Not today.
Those years of lore in the NFL called the Dynasty years are finished. Never again will that happen with that kind of overall talent on teams (at least for long). Coaching, and capology are the premiums in the NFL. Bellichick does it or has done it, but because of his ability to pick the ultimate "team players" who are willing to sacrifice pay for the ultimate team trophy. Very seldom in todays NFL will the core group stick around on any given team. Unless you have a good management group, people who can replace players quicker than you can say Edgerrin James out, Joseph Addai in.
Not that Joe Gibbs is "not" a good or great coach. I believe he still is, but todays football players probably has him scratching his head.
His starting right tackle goes down... oh well, he's not going to plug in that #1 draft pick he's been holding onto for 2 seasons. That's Joe's problem.

The game has changed so much since Gibbs was in the Super Bowl. It's all about speed now, especially on defense, and that requires a completely different approach.

Gibbs offense of the past fine against the defenses that were run then. The major change that has occurred, and the one that hurt Gibbs old approach, is that there are now Defensive Ends that run a 4.4sec. 40yrd. dash. It's possible that Gibbs never even coached a player, at any position, that ran under a 4.6 or 4.7.

Why can't Bill Parcells run the same offense that won him 2 Super Bowls? Why couldn't Jimmy Johnson run the same offense in Miami that won him two Super Bowls in Dallas? It's because the game has changed and they never have the right personnel in place to make that gameplan really work to fruition.

hey H .E G Deon sanders 4.19,rod woodson 4.23 Lawrence Taylor if u weren't born before 1995 doesn't mean that good fast players didn't exist before u were watching
Joe Gibbs won in the way the Patriots,Eagles,Pittsburg and Baltimore won drafting good quality hard working players the opposite of the way Snyder runs his operation the problem isn't Gibbs being to old its Snyder being so young and thinking you can buy a Superbowl
Joe Gibbs offense wasn't a problem Joe was winning games buy getting the lead playing good defense and running the ball Clinton portis 1,400 yards in 2005 the low scoring Tampa bay game in the playoffs in 05' caused an over reaction typical of Snyder "change something and do it fast"witch has been the problem 4 different systems in 7 years no draft picks high priced free agents every time you change scheme players have to forget every thing from the year before start new a lot of progress is lost Joe Gibbs had a team on the verge of the super bowl close loss the Seattle in 05' to 5-11 the next year (even Marty shottenhmiers 8-8 run the ball play defense 00'team wining 5 of the last 6 got him fired after ONE SEASON but marty wasnt a great coach the game past him by but yet he did it again in san diego )to spurrier pass the ball everydown 5-11 teams to four years later Joe Gibbs 6-10 in 04'to Joe Gibbs 10 -6 in 05' to change EVERYTHING start passing fall back to 5-11in 06' I understand wanting to win but everytime there is progress synders impatiantce causes him too make poor decisions and no one in the organistion says no. Snyder is like a 5 year old brat in your local Safeway screaming because he wants cookie crisp and your waiting for his mis moom to slap him on the (***), but she won't and you have to hear him all the way to the milk isle
ps just addded ESNAGUI (reffering to the post below)the 49ers bet who? the same dolphins ,the same broncos, and the bengals twice your joe gibbs wasnt a great coach because they didnt play anybody theory dosent hold water gibbs did it with 3 QBs Walsh did it agaisnt the same teams with the great joe montana?so by your reasoning Wlash wasnt a great coach either.83-84 nfc title game they won even though they lost in the super bowl they beat the 49ers "the team of the 80's" stop hating walsh was a great coach so was gibbs 3-1 suber bowl record even though they won 4 suber bowls the niners lost to the redskins in there only playoff game in the 80's

1. The Redskins don't have a very good o-line
2. They don't have a power back. Don't get me wrong, Portis is good, and fast, but he doesn't have the power Riggins had.
3. Brunell/Campbell haven't proven they can win in Washington. Brunell is old and beat up, and Campbell is young and inexperienced.
4. The WRs cant compare to past ones. Santana Moss is great, and a legit deep threat. Cooley is a good TE, but they have no possession reciever.

He is too old right now to be given that much responsibility. Al Saunders is a good offensive coordinator. They just need improved play at quarterback and they should be ok. Their real issues are on the defensive side of the ball.

He could run the offense but he doesn't have the telent - Theismann and Riggins are gone. They need to hire a young aggressive coach and forget about the glory days
