I was a foster kid, for pretty much my entire life. The only advise I can give, is to please be kind, loving, and patient. We have gone through alot, and there are so many foster homes out there that are abusive and mean, and the foster parents only do it for the money. It takes alot of work, but if you are loving people, I thank you with all my heart.

My husband and I are foster parents. The only advice I can give is to be patient, patient, patient. It is a tough, but VERY rewarding job. We have an infant in our home now. We have had him for 4 months (since he was 6 weeks old). He may go home one day, but we are prepared. That is another thing. Prepare yourself to let them go. Even if you think it is the wrong idea, don't let your heart break over and over, and don't dwell on what is happening with the children after they leave. Focus on helping the next child you get in your home. The children we had before the current child, we had an young boy for only 3 days. Good luck, and thanks for helping all the children in your state.

My sister and her husband were for a few years. They quit because they'd get these beautiful young children and babies, work like hell to get them emotioally straight again, only to see them end up go back to the natural parents to get screwed up again, and they couldnt take the heartache anymore. I hope you fully consider what this will to do YOUR emotional well-being.
