I've been off bc for several yrs. I have taken depo, and orthotricyclin. While on that pill I had chest pain. Now I have considered taking pills again. I have heard that the lo pills are worse for you and cause more breakthrough bleeding. I'm going to my doc on the 26 of this month. I just want to know what some of you all think is the best pill to take. (with the least amount of side effects/heart attack, stroke? (none of these things run in my family, and I do not smoke)

Maybe Mirena. It's a small thing they put in your cervix for up to five years.

I just changed from Ortho Tri Cyclin-Lo to the regular Ortho because of breakthrough bleeding. The non tri pills are the best to go with cause the dosage doesn't change during the entire month till you get to the sugar pills.

I've tried about 7 different brands of pills because of medical issues and have also tried the Patch and found nothing worked better for me than the Nuvaring. It was really weird at first, but once I got used to the idea of such a different type of BC it worked well for me. It's a ring that looks almost like a little jelly-style/rubber bracelet that you insert vaginally. It just sort-of "pops open" inside and you don't feel it at all after that. You wear it vaginally for 3 weeks and then remove it on the 4th week so you can have a period. Easy to remove too. No biggy. I did not gain any weight on it, suffered no water retention, no nausea, minimal breakthrough bleeding (which was more my body just adjusting to a different level hormone than anything and lasted for just a few days) and the BEST part was if it wasn't working for me and if I ever decided to try something different I could just remove it and be ready to move on to the next form of BC immediately. It's not metabolised in the body therefore you don't have to wait for it to "get out of your system". I actually opted to keep my Nuvaring in for 4 straight weeks and then put the new ring in immediatly. I remained on continuous birth control and skipped my periods every month. About every 5-6 months I'd go ahead and take it out on the 4th week just because I felt like I was a little hormonal and could stand to go ahead and have one. My doctor actually recommended I do this form of continuous birth control because I had a long history of endometriosis and this dimished it somewhat. Alot of my friends have opted to give Nuvaring a try just because they were tired of pills and shots and to date not a single one of them has ever switched from it. We all love it! Low maintenance, low-no side effects, easy to get out of your system if you change your mind.

I myself have done the pill, and there is no pill that has the least amount of side effects. I currently have mirena which is an IUD, it is great, it is a low dose hormone, and has a low risk of side effects, it will last five years unless u want it taken out sooner. Hope this helps.
