Can I just add the additional postage to my return letter?

I tried to send a letter with somethign inside. It came back today with insufficient postage notice saying I was 13 cents short. Do I need to just add 13 cents worth of stamps or have i lost the original 39 cents I already paid?

If there is a hand stamped on the envelope (the one with the finger pointing and saying return to sender), then you have to use a new envelope. If no hand, you can add the additional postage and remail it. Just make sure you cross out anything else the post office may have stamped.
