focus, don't send notes around, pay attention, ignore people that call your name besides the teacher, raise your hand alot!, that could bolster your participation points witch also bolsters your grade points......believe me i am too in 6th grade but i made the mistake of not doing the things above......

I'm sorry to hear you are having a hard time. I work at a school as an aide so I have some tips:
1. Talk to the teacher. Just the effort to talk impresses her and lets her know you want to fix it.
2. Figure out any distractions: Kid next to you grabbing your stuff, window near you, loud class, etc. Is the room too bright/dim? Is your desk the right size? That fuzzy pen too cute? :)
3. Take it one assignment at a time. Get started right away and ask questions if you are confused. Fiddling around just makes it worse.
4. Ask your teacher to move you to someone helpful. Usually that one kid that is done before she is finished explaining the assignment.
5. Study: Math: write down your times tables once a day and have a parent correct it. Writing: use the dictionary and see if your stories make sense. Reading: Find books your own level and reread your favorites. Retell the story to a friend or parent to practice comprehension.
Believe it or not, the teacher really is there to help you. She just needs to see a sign that you want to help yourself.
I hope this helps! Good luck!

School is just like a job, work hard or get fired. You have to read about things and try to remember them. Take notes so you can remember them. Try to make the teacher like you and she/he will help you more. They don't want to waste their time on anyone who is not there to learn. Whether you became a valuable citizen and have a good living when you grow up will depend on how hard you work in school. It takes a lot of work and trying to figure things out to be good in school. A couple of pointers is when you are studying don't get too comfortable as it will make you sleepy. Also in math if you don't understand the problem, draw a picture. These are two things that helped me. Raising your hand is a good point. I had to recite the preamble to the constitution and I was so scared and raised my hand to get it over with and because I was first and volunteered I got an A. Even though I was so scared I couldn't hardly talk. Good luck in your school years. You sound like a young person who cares, and that is half the battle.

I am a sixth grade teacher. To give you a teacher's point of view...pay attention in class, do ALL the in class work and homework. Ask questions if you have them and ask for extra help if you need it. Study every night...especially the really hard stuff. Find some friends that already get good grades and see what they do that you don't.
Also...probably the hardest....remember the teacher will give you all the information you need in class. It is up to you to pay attention, participate, and TRY your hardest. Even if you get it wrong...you will still get teacher points for attempting it.
Good Luck!

Well, i think that you should always study for tests, but don't make it a chore. I suggest you and your friends get together to work on homework and studying so that it is fun but also will help you get good grades.

Ask your teacher for extra help, maybe even a tutor. Don't be afraid, you can do it. Your teacher will see you trying, and they will help you out. Asking for help is difficult, but the reward of passing the grade will definitely be worth it.
