I was walking with my dog in the woods yesterday and found a baby turtle laying upside-down in the path. His belly has orange and red markings. He has a hard shell with three yellow spots right down the middle. I've tried looking at pictures online to find out what kind he is, but i can't find him. Can anyone identify him for me?

He is a definately a land turtle. The belly of the shell is a bit soft, I think because he is young, but the top is hard and mostly smooth except for the yellow spots. The rest of his shell and body are brown.

Chances are that if you live in the United States it is a Box Turtle (Terrapene sp.)

I cant really answer your questyion without seeing a picture or without knowing where you you are as some turtles are different from one place to another but it sounds like a common painted turtle, try looking up painted turtle and see what happens

A geographic location might help narrow down the possibilities.

some young box turtles have spots, but it is really hard to tell from your description, where do you live? if it is in north america then it is most likly a box turtle.
