New position. Want to send a brief, to the point email introducing myself and expressing my pleasure in working with everyone. Thanks.

Go for it. But you may want to make sure your boss isn't doing it, no point in duplicating efforts.

Just state where you come from. How you found the position, and that you are looking forward to being part of the team. Don't talk about your accomplishments or where you went to school, that may be mis-construed as bragging.
