sure, pertaining to basic laws and human rights upheld by a country and its documentation (i.e. constitution).

should they be teaching our children religious moral values? hell no. that would be intolerant and discriminatory against members who are of a different religion than the one they are being indoctrinated in. not to mention a violation of the separation of church and state. (if you live in america).

on the whole i do believe its important that schools educate students on what is wrong to do in our society. Many criminals are who they are because they didnt receive the love and discipline they needed as children.

example of what ethics to teach children in school:

killing, injuring, insulting, and stealing from others is wrong.

example of what not to teach:

eating meat on fridays is wrong.

(and no im not saying catholicism is wrong im just saying that ethical values such as eating meat on fridays should be left out of a school system that provides for everyone.)

agree: school is where children spend most of their life. if they do not find the proper style of life taught with the correct ethics and morals, their ethics and morals will remain 'jacked up' for the remainder of their lifetime. In a society where ethics and morals are quickly losing ground, it is only a matter of time before outrageous acts become completely out of hand and wreak constant chaos and fear into the hearts of citizens throughout america.

disagree: children do not listen to adults either way, and it wastes time and effort to teach children more ethics and morals. Also, since everyone's ethics and morals are different, it isn't correct to teach children to believe in a certain manner of treating their community.

Public schools should teach children manners, and how do be well-behaved and good members of society. Nothing more.

Private schools, however, especially Christian schools, have an obligation to teach ethics and morals to their students in a good way that is consistent with the schools belief.
