people, & spent $700 Billion less in 3 1/2 years of fighting the war on terror than the US military? Is it because US intelligence might be a lot better (& much more efficient) at fighting the war on terror than the US military?

Sorry. You make too much sense. The powers that be will never understand this simple math.

Great post...

You need both. The intelligence/law enforcement treats the symptoms and flair ups. The military is the cure for the disease. Neither can succeed alone.

Don't forget that a lot of that intelligence was the result of military action like prisoners, captured computers and documents etc.

It's because the US military is not fighting terrorism in Iraq.

As pretty much everyone from the main field commander (Patreus) down to the foot soldier (having personally asked several currently in Iraq), our mission in Iraq has nothing to do with stopping global terrorism.

We're in Iraq because we feel guilty about the condition the country is in, because we deposed the previous govt (Saddam) without any other govt being ready to take over. So, feeling guily, we took on the moral obligation of fixing the mess.

But whether that is valid or not, it has nothing to do with the global war against terrorists.

Most everyone knows that our Dept of State, Dept of Defense, and the top dogs in the Pentagon are tying the hands of our military. They are not allowed to do the job they were meant to do. It's my belief that the government is terrified that the middle east will turn against us, and we will have no more access to their oil, but of course that will never happen because the oil producing countries need us for their survival too. We will always be in other countries because we need to continue to have a reason to be involved, since now the whole world is interconnected and mutually dependent.

Because , with the possible exception of strategic groups, the Military isnt out looking for terrorists they are peacekeeping.
Intelligence isnt peacekeeping , they are looking for terrorists.

A cop working in a jail isnt goin to prevent many traffic violations unless he happens to be walking across the street maybe, but a cop in a patrol car looking for them might.

If we would let the military commanders in Iraq fight this war instead of the politicians in Washington, perhaps the U.S. Intelligence wouldn't have such a large pool to fish from.

Now there's an oxymoron statement if I've ever seen one:

"US intelligence captures more terrorists, stops more terror plots, and has lost..."

I'm laughing so hard at this, I can't stop!
