It is possible to deposit or cash a check from a financial organization overseas?

Like, for example I have a check from a USA bank and rigth now I am in England and would like to cash or deposit in my account here in England.

Your bank will convert the US$ amount to GB Pounds and deposit it in your account. They may charge a conversion fee to change the currency but it would be the same as changing US$ to Pounds when you are a tourist travelling in England.

Having worked in a U.S. Credit Union, I know you can cash foreign checks. It is not, however, a quick nor simple task.

The checks will need clear before the funds will be released. Since you are in the U.K., I am guessing it should take about a week or so. If the check is written on a large bank (Bank of America for example) you may be able to get the money a little sooner.

All of this is probably riding on the fact that you have an account with the U.K. bank you are going to cash the check. Without an account, they will probably tell you to keep walking.
