I logged on to my email, one day, and a fellow contributor to the "Diabetes" category congratulated me on being top answerer in that category. I also answer a lot in "TV" and "Diet and Fitness". I noticed the orange "Top Contributor" and investigated. In Diabetes, I have more "Best Answers" than anyone else in that category. In TVs, I'm like fifth from the top, or something, with around 140 best answers, I think. In Diet and Fitness, I have no idea where I stand, but I guess I'm in the top 100, or so, best answers in that category. Hope that sheds some light.

I don't either. I have tried finding out and have yet been able to find out EXACTLY how this is achieved.
