I teach several online classes...depending on who is doing yours it can be anything from "read the book...take this online quiz...see you in a few months for your exam" to a variety of interactive exercises. I tend to do the latter (my students write short papers, do case-study exercises, take short study quizzes...a lot of different things).

Have you contacted the professor yet, and asked him/her about his/her class?

Online classes can be good as far as fitting into your overall schedule goes, but what too many students don't realize is that it does require AT LEAST as much time outside of class as your typical 3-hour lecture class...sometimes MORE.

I guess the short answer is: i would suggest it, but only if YOU are good with time management and the professor incorporates more than just passive book reading in his or her class...

I have and I have enjoyed them.

But it is not for everyone. It is not as easy as some would think.

Can you learn from just reading something?
Can you be honest - do the class work yourself?
Can you keep yourself to a schedule without a "roll call"?
Can you ask questions, and also help answer other students questions, online?

If you can, take some classes online. But I would advise that you also take some classes at the college, or join one of the clubs, that way you wont become a Hermit.

I am taking online classes for my generals. I love it. Granted, you actually don't learn as much in an online class, but the classes usually can be compared to 9th grade. I wouldn't take math or science classes online, but things like English Lit, History, Psychology, Business, etc are simple. But you must be responsible enough to do things yourself since no one is there to tell you what to do. Also, don't take classes online if it crucial to your major, as you want to learn as much as you possibly can.
