Clothes shopping in Hawaii. Yes or no?

Pack EVERYTHING or buy a lot. Prices?

How much clothing do you think you'll need? Some sun dresses, a few bathing suits, a wrap or two and personal necessities. You'll want to bring a light jacket for cool evenings or mornings or rain. You probably won't even need socks unless you plan on doing some hiking. Take the necessities, and if money is no object, shop your heart out. It's a shame to go all the way to Hawaii only to spend your time doing something as mundane as shopping. I'd save it for unique items you can only get there. Hawaii has so much more to offer than spending time shopping at stores you can shop on the mainland. Then again, I'm a guy and love to explore and dive. And yes, Hawaii tends to the expensive side, as expensive as you care to make it.

If you want inexpensive Hawaiian clothes go to Walmart, Kmart or the out door flea markets. There just as good as the expensive stores. I know I lived on Kauai and still have my clothes from those stores. Always buy your Pareos/sarongs from out of the way small type stores, vendors. You'll get a good deal. Good Luck. Good thing to do is pack a suitcase inside another that way you don't have to buy an extra when you get there. Saves money.

Pack NOTHING. Go to the big Island and ask for directions to the International Flea Market. It's HUGE. A little village of stores. I bought a souvenir for everyone I know while I was there, enough Hawaiian shirts to wear every day for two weeks, fun little toys to entertain myself for two weeks and enough booze to get a really bad sun burn with. A shoppers dream.

Pack everything! Just so you know, the ABC (tourist/convenient) stores will drive you crazy!! There's one on every block :P
