How many of you have had a ultrasound recently where the doctor was wrong about the sex when it was born? I just had a 18wk ultrasound and the doctor said it was a girl. It was pretty obvious even to me. But now people are saying thier doctor was wrong and came out different, but they were all at least 10 yrs ago. I would imagine technology has come a long way from then, and would be accurate. Anybody's not accurate?

My ob doctor has been delivering for over 20 years, so he has seen a lot of ultrasounds, and is hardly ever wrong, but still just curious.

My ex wife and I were assured in 2002 that our baby was going to be a little girl. The doctor said he was 100% sure.

We went home, painted a room pink and purple. We bought all little girl stuff. I even bought little girl themed diapers, carseat, crib stuff.

Sure enough, I brought my newborn son home in a dress and pink diapers and pink booties in a pink carseat.

never trust technology.

The sonographer can be wrong! It is not always easy to see the gender. If you have a ultrasound done around 20 weeks then it is most likely accurate when the baby moves into a good position. The cord can make a girl look like a boy. Babies can be sitting on their hands or feet. If you get the opportunity to see between the legs and it is a boy it is very easy to tell. Girls are more difficult to be sure about. We as sonographers try very hard to give patients the correct answer to the gender question and equipment is far better than it was 20 yrs ago........but sometimes human error occurs.

when i was 19 weeks pregnant my doctor told me i was haveing a girl.... and when the baby came out, it was a girl... your right the technology has come a long way. i have a big family and out of all my aunts, and cousins and siblings, no one in my family has ever had an ultrasound that was wrong. there is a possibility that he could be wrong just because the position of the baby might have been messed up a bit. but they usually will not tell you what they think it is unless he/she can see a good picture and can pretty much tell what the gender of the baby will be. there is still a chance it is a boy, but if they told you your baby is a girl i will be willing to put money on it being a girl.

i do recommend a 3D ultrasound, they come out of your own pocket but its worth it and you can see the gender ALOT better.

Was it a 3d ultrasound???
6 years ago we only had 2d and they wouldn't say the gender because they could sometimes be wrong. However, our midwife told us that the thing to look for was the scrotal sac, which is much enlarged at this stage. So. if there's something round the size of a football imbetween baby's thighs congratulations you've a boy!
If not -congratulations you've a beautiful girl!

I heard a story of a doctor who used to see an ultrasound, tell the mum what she was having, then write down the opposite. If the mum came back after the baby was born saying that the doc was wrong, he would say, "No look, I wrote down what you were having."

well, I've had 4 ultrasounds so far since I found out the sex and each time it was the exact same. So the ultrasound tech too a big chance in saying she's 100% sure it's a boy. Since we saw the testicles and all, lol.

The ultrasound can be wrong. My two boys were suppose to be girls. They are healthy rambunctious 12 and 8 year old boys. Ultrasounds are good but don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Here is a picture my girl's ultrasound. Hope it helps.

Ultrasounds are pretty accurate, but there is always a chance the doctor made a mistake.

I had an U/S at 16wks and they saw not only girl part but little ovaries... I think a lot of times when the gender gets screwed up it is because it might have been an early U/S...When you get them later, sometimes you can't miss especially an ovarie vs a penis!!!!! I got 2 more after that and same! Especially the 3D u cant miss it!
