My husband is 6'2 and he roughly weighs about 275 lbs. What activities or exercises could he do to help tone and lose some weight. The only problem...he works 12 hour days. All his weight is in his stomach. I just want him to lose his non-beer belly(he does not drink beer).
Serious answers please for his limited availability.

First thing- don't change how much you eat (unless it is WAY WAY to much), start out by changing what you are eating. If it comes in a diet option, try it. If you are drinking 1% milk, try skim (or the next percentage down), avoid juice (liquid calories are way to easy to consume and hard to get rid of).

Second thing- Watch out for when you are eating these things, often times it is better to have smaller meals and snack throughout the day.

Third thing- NEVER EAT FAST FOOD. It is essentially a slow acting poison on your body and can lead to more health problems than you can think of.

Fourth thing- if you don't exercise, start out going for walks in the park or somehting, then bring it up to a light jog (once you are comfortable), then slowley bring up the intensity.

Fifth thing- Evaluate everything you put in your mouth, (i.e. avoiding higher fat meats like ribs, pork.. try fish instead or dear or chicken... then general meat rule is that the fewer legs it had as an animal, the better it is for you). Also, think about what goes into you ask yourself, "Should I be eating this?"

Sixth thing- You don't have to be doing all this 100% of the time, treat yourself, but recognize your priorities when it comes to it and don't let "treating yourself" get out of hand.

This may take work on your part too. Make a menu plan for each day of the week, Monday to Sunday. On each of those days, write down what he can eat for breakfast, lunch dinner and two snacks. You should make these menus very low in fat, high protein and don't be worried about carbs. You need complex carbs for energy. Having a menu plan can take all the temptation out of snacking and drinking as long as he agrees to stick to it. Eventually, it'll be such a habit that he already knows what's for supper on Mondays. You can also make a exercise plan for each day of the week, but since he works 12 hours, its not really necessary. Despite what people think, you don't need to exercise to lose weight. You do lose weight faster if you do a bit of light weight training to build muslce, although it make you hungrier too so you have to stick your menu. You should both at least walk 40 minutes several times a week.
No pop, no mayonnaise, no butter, no cream in the coffee, no cooking with oil. Everything like salad dressings should be strictly fat-free. Eg. A good breakfast is oatmeal and a good lunch is tuna.

I don't see HIM asking how he can lose weight, and you didn't say HE wanted to lose weight! If he's working 12 hour days, the last thing he needs is somebody nagging him about his weight when he gets home. Being nagged is a major stress, and stress is much more dangerous to his health than his weight is.

So if this is something HE wants to know, fine. If you're asking how you can "make" him lose weight, just get off his case. The poor guy is working 12 hours a day -- let him relax when he gets home. He might lose weight when HE wants to, but even then, not everyone can. NOBODY loses weight because they are harrassed about it. Try to love him the way he is -- I bet he's a great guy, and you're lucky to have him, belly and all.

Tell him to lay of the d a m n Twinkies!!!! And get to running. Do some push ups and sit ups. Use a treadmill. Come on! Apposed to driving to work if its close ride a bike its almost spring. And run to the cafe for lunch. And he has at least one day off a week so use it to work out. Do it together so it is more fun and its family time. Hope that helps. Good luck.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

Get started today!

if he needs to lose weight he should do something he enjoys like a certain sport or maybe working out at your house while watching Tv. Eating smaller portions umm just watching what he eats i really like Lean Cuisenes there really good and drinking lots of water like for example if he is hungry try drinking water instead to fill himself up. and walk to friends houses that live closer instead of driving there plenty of other things you can do these are just some of them

Try a low-carb diet. It really works for losing belly fat. Also try to go on a job every day. Another thing is if he could lift weights and gain some muscle. Muscle burns fat faster than your normal body.

You should get him to be tested for food intolerances first-off. I say this because I have a friend who lost 40 pounds by cutting wheat out of her diet. Turned out she had an intolerance to gluten. Later, I heard about a diet which guarantees rapid weight loss by cutting certain things out of your diet - dairy, gluten (wheat), caffeine, alcohol and saturated fats. Tried it, it works. Also, try to get him to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.

I think it's great that you want your husband to be healthier, but what does he want to do? Until and unless he wants to lose weight, it's not going to happen. Have him talk to his doctor about it. Good luck.
