Due to separation of church and state in this country, no "religious" organization is taxed. They are free to abuse their members with all sorts of primitive devices, like displaying prejudice toward women, blacks, foreigners, those with dissenting political views and the handicapped.
There is a law on the books that says a church can lose its tax exemption if it uses its authority to preach political messages. its never used because religious zealots have much to gain from the boogie man message coming from Washington.
There is no law on the books that says that otherwise rational people MUST belong to the quasi-terrorist organizations known as churches.
Keep in mind, the period in history that most people call the "Dark Ages" is known in theological circles as "The Golden Age of the Church."

I think the asker raises a good point about freedom. Is it really freedom of religion to allow any kind of practice? For example, the US doesn't allow female circumcision or the use of most psychedelic drugs in religious ceremonies. So where should the line be drawn? One could argue that letting people do absolutely anything isn't freedom of religion but anarchy. So some middle ground is good.

Religious organizations get the same tax deductions as any other non-profit civic, educational and/or religious group.
It's the goal of the group, and it's non-profit status under section 501(c) of the IRS code, that qualifies them for tax breaks.
What the group does internally is not something the govt can regulate. Each group is entitled to their own membership rules.

Because no one in our government has ever had the stones to try and dictate to any church or synagogue what their rules and regulations are.
In the Maryland legislature today, two women debated the getting of a "get" which is a form of divorce to which they have not been able to obtain except with their husband's agreement.
He now can use it for blackmail purposes.
Without the get, the Jewish woman can never get married again in the faith.

They receive it for the same reason as those non-profits with whom you agree: it is a First Amendment right that every American is free to decide what he/she thinks and to associate with others of like mind. The U.S. has a long history of using tax policy to promote various endeavors. In this case it is free speech...and free speech si not based on how popular an idea is with you, the media or anyone else.
If I work for the gov't and you give me power to shut off the tax breaks for those churches with whom you disagree, then watch out because I will also shut down other groups and eventually attack one you happen to agree with. America has largely avoided that kind of civil rights war by tolerance for all viewpoints--be they conservative, moderate, or liberal on matters of religion and politics.

Women should get out of that church and find another that is more compassionate if possible. Some right wing churches are so backward. Maybe you could give up religion altogether and work for the community of humans.

Well would you rather have them to become a tax paying organization , which by the way will give them a bigger voice in voice in government, and as tax payers they have a bigger say in the community as well .

Are you relating Muslims? Fundamentalist Christians? Who? if you're relating Christian church homes who adhere to particular roles of adult adult males and females individuals, it truly is yet another count number. we do not imagine women individuals are not practically as good as adult adult males in any way, pretty spiritually.

Every since we started translating God as "HE", women have been the losers. It's a man's world, sweetie. We can fight, but I don't think we'll win for decades or centuries. Love you, Sammy
