I agree with another answer that suggested watching what you eat and getting regular exercise. It does make a difference for both energy and focus.

Schedule regular time each day that is your study time instead of just telling yourself "I'll work on this and this later." Set a regular time of maybe a couple hours (don't make it such a huge amount that you intimidate yourself and get discouraged before you even begin.)

After setting a time, set a place where you ONLY study. The library, an unused classroom--anywhere that you have to GO there and you avoid distractions and temptations. It is a good idea to shut off your phone and your email and IM while you are there.

Third, make a running list as the day goes on. . . I need to read these pages, work on this project, review for this test. . . then prioritize what you are going to do during your study time. Be realistic about how much you can accomplish in the two hours.

Then GO to your study place and settle in and start with the top item on your list. Give yourself a five minute break every now and then--do it BEFORE you find yourself getting worn down. If you find you are not focusing well, try to consciously correct yourself for ten minutes on that subject, then if you have to, switch to a different subject. But DON'T goof off, talk on the phone, etc. because that'll break your routine of knowing you have to settle and study.

You will be surprised how making it a regular habit and ONLY studying in that place will help you focus and achieve what you need to do. Obviously some days you'll need another session or longer session, but getting a routine going will make the work go more smoothly and that'll make you feel more confident and less stressed. Then you can leave your study place and reward yourself by meeting friends or doing something fun and it is twice as much fun because you don't have so much hanging over your head--you have earned the right to relax.

Good luck!

Do work first and slack off after, so slacking is the reward, not the initial action.

Also a great way to get reinvigorated is to go away on break, then return fresh. If all you do is work all the time it wears you down.

Another thing, eat healthy and exercise. These might sound stupid but most college students don't eat well thus the freshman 15 as they call it. The healthier you eat the better your energy, working out also stabilizes it and helps with concentration. If you eat well you feel well, if you eat like crap you feel it.

Hope this helps.

get yourself motivated. Give yourself rewards for completing work, it works for me :)

you can't really avoid this, you have to change your attitude yourself...find your motivation again...
