Think about when 9/11 happened. If president Bush said to American's in the next weeks after that..."would you be willing to give up your such and such rights if we go to war against Iraq to ensure domestic peace??" everyone would say...and did say "Heck yes!!!"

Its not really to be allowed or not allowed. even if we (the people) voted on it then, we were hot with revenge. and didn't care what happened, as long as we were safe and killed whomever was trying to kill us.

democratic value: That one pretty much hits them all.
Truth (weapons of mass destruction)
Popular Sov. wouldn't really count (as explained)
equality - everyone had their eye on every arab in America
judgement..

....you get the idea.

Some teacher has put you into an impossible position. A democratic core value is that the people vote for all officials or on every public question. That is the very anithesis of "the U.S. government be allowed to do whatever is necessary..."

The closest you can come to it is the democracy of the former Soviet Union. They used to hold elections there, but the purpose was not a search for the best candidate for office, nor to find the best answer to public questions. Rather, the Commuist party had already found the best candidates and answers, and the task of the voters was to signify their agreement with this obvious right choice.

Good luck with your essay!

I won't give you an answer to your question because that wouldn't be your answer. You should read material like textbook, magazines, newspapers, etc on the subject and formulate your own thoughtful opinion. You could also watch TV news programs on the subject. You will never achieve anything by getting other to do your work and besides, it plagiarism. I think you know that and I think you will do the right thing. Good luck!

No they shouldn't be allowed to do whatever. It would infringe on democratic values. We are the government the government does not control us.
