I have some early round coins of China which go back to at least 350 BC, the spade money goes back to around 1200 BC and the knife money to around 400 BC. I also have some Greek coins that go back to around 400 BC also. I have some cowrie shell that were dug up in China and could be as old as 1766 BC. During the Shang Dynasty 1766-1154 BC the shells had value, but it is a long stretch to actually call them coins. Coins become alive when one traces the coins history back. Coin collecting is an amazing hobby, I guess that is one reason it is called "The King of Hobbies" I have a Spanish American piece of eight, I wonder if Black Beard had it in his pouch, or did George Washington use it to buy something.
