Yes but we are more of a unified group like the romans were. The Greeks would be like us if the confederacy had won the civil war

By far the Romans. See: Edith Hamilton's book, "The Roman Way". And also the "The Greek Way". American government and its justice system are much closer to the Roman than the Greek, and thank God for it. Nevertheless, the current partisanship of the nation (90% of the blame goes to the Liberal wing of the democrat party!) dose resemble the Greek form of democracy, that is to say irrational self interested demagoguery in the name of political expediency.
Ps from a history major and furious reader of primary source material.
We are educated to believe that the Greeks were super rationalists and humanists similar to that of so called "Renaissance" Italy and it is true that a few were so. Nevertheless, one only needs read Xenophon's "Anabasis" , Sophocles' "Oedipus Rex", and or the writings of Plato to see that even the best of the Greeks (These 3 are the best of them.) are a violent and superstitious people. The Romans on the other hand were all about practicality. (There engineering feats are still with us.) While academia might relate to the Greek's (Academy from Aristotle's school.) American power and superfluity are derived from the common man, a man that resembles the Roman over the Greek if any.
Note: What the Roman's took from the Greek was its writings and culture, and not its form of government. Also it was the Roman rich upper class that took this culture on and it eventually degraded the ultra conservative values of the early republic and which lead to years of civil wars, the Pax Romana and the eventual fall of the empire. Note also that the biggest Hellofiles were the corrupt likes of Marc Antony and Nero. It was for this reason that when our founding father's looked to history for good examples of governance they looked to the Roman's via writers such as Plutarch and also the opponents of Liberty and democracy were not without example of democracy’s shortcomings. For which the history of the Hellenic polis' provide an arsenal of evidence against and a phalanxes of Sharpe and menacing warnings in favor of the stability of the contrasting British Crown.
PS "Much of the Latin in the English lang was placed their by British latinofiles following the renassians". See: Bill Bryson's, "A History of the English Language".

As Romans were influenced by the Greeks, yes to both. However, the founding fathers were more directly influenced by the Roman Republic, as they established a republic with a two house legislature, modeled the senate on the Roman Senate and the House on the People's Assembley, and the Presidency served a similar function to the Consuls of Rome. Rome also had a separate judiciary.

Actually it's both. Our language is based on Latin which is
Roman. We took the positives from both and combined them. Our political system combines the senatorial system
that the Romans had with the democratic process of the Greeks, although it is a lot more modern - of course. The
English started this with the "Magna Carta" and it eventually
evolved into what we have now. A big mess!

The Greeks!

The majority (politics, religion, social order, et al.) of ancient Roman culture was taken directly from the Greeks.

This is kind of an odd question. The Romans were actually influenced by the Greeks. So, to answer your question, both.

The romans. Both republics, both had a senate that was more concerned with maintainin it's money and power than with acutally doing anything beneficial...emperor Caligula appointed a horse to a senate post...we have...well......lots of similarities...and both rotted from the inside out and were dead long before the ruling class figured it out...

Both in different ways. We love knowledge for its own sake, but we unify for power. Take your pick.

We are part of overall western civilization, and both Greece and Rome left major imprints.
