If it is stated as allowed in the student handbooks. Even without stating it, students know that personal items can be confiscated. Now if the teacher doesn't give it back, then you have a complaint!

Most school's handbooks state that anything distracting students from learning is against the rules. This means teachers can take them, especially if you've been warned. Most teachers will give the items back at the end of the semester or year. If they're anything like me, they'll have forgotten who they took things from and will need to be reminded by the student. If the students are anything like mine, they'll forget what items were taken from them when they're right in front of them in a box because they got so many petty little things taken away...and they'll just laugh it off. :D

Generally, I give the student a warning and if it happens again, I take the item away. The only way I'll give it back is if they bring me a note from their parent. Usually by this point, because the student doesn't want to get in trouble at home, they are pretty good about not doing it again. (When I have taken something away, it's either a - something that mom or dad warned them about bringing to school in the first place or b - something insignificant that they can't even remember belonged to them at the end of the year!)

yes the teachers can and they should give back at the end of the day. Some schools have the rule that if they consfiscate something that the child must pay $15 around there, but some schools don't do that. And if they don't give the item back then you must tell the princpal or your parent.

Of course. If it is against the school rules, teachers/principals can confiscate those things.
Usually the kid can get it back at the end of the day (or semester) but if you break the rules, you suffer the consequences. Too bad, so sad. Follow the rules.
