What are your opinions on today's children (please, in this country, I can honestly say that the only thing bad about this generation is the fact that we were born when Bird Flu first peered it's ugly threatening head towards the country. That, and today's music. The rap is bad, the pop is bad and the metal just isn't the same.)

--WELL WE CAN'T LUMP all our young people in a general generation category and say well this indeed is how most act. There have been some good examples among our youth.

--But there should be a sense of urgency that adults are very easy going about, and have indeed, by their indifference contributed to some serious dangers for our young people AND it is permeating world wide. Please note a Bible warning:

(Proverbs 1:31-33) . . .. 32 For the renegading of the inexperienced ones is what will kill them, and the easygoingness of the stupid is what will destroy them. 33 As for the one listening to me, he will reside in security and be undisturbed from dread of calamity. . .

--FOR INSTANCE on Dr. Phils about a month ago , there was a presentation of the "BULLYING AFFECT" -on our young people especially in school. On the show a statistic was given, here it is. 'The leading cause for teen suicide is because of bullying done to them'--Dr. Phils concern was that parents, teachers, principals , etc. should be zealous to do something, where they are not!---With urgency!

--As a teacher, coach, tutor for over 40 years, I have experienced some serious things. When I was substitute teaching(1968) in Ossining , N.Y. (home of Sing Sing Prison)--I sensed some violence that was brewing and I went to the principal with my concerns(arguements in class that I had to firmly break up)
--I decided to quit that school system because it was getting out of hand!----2 WEEKS LATER a violent riot broke out with people getting hurt and the police having to be called in to break it up. Teachers & students were injured.
--Since then with all the killings in schools , people have been in shock, YET there are many adults who feel very proud of our young generation and are very easy going with trends that are escalating. SO INDIFFERENCE IS A STUPID ATTITUDE--when dealing with serious events.
--This next proverb is indeed a very frank one--BUT IT DOES INDEED describe what attitudes were in Bible times with "the easy going of the stupid ones" ---those who should know what is going on and are in charge, but do very little to correct matters--WITH ANY SENSE OF URGENCY.
--Today we have brewing a potential volcano that can & does errupt at times. Please note:

(Proverbs 30:11-14) 11 There is a generation that calls down evil even upon its father and that does not bless even its mother.
--12 There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes but that has not been washed from its own excrement
--13 There is a generation whose eyes have become O how lofty! and whose beaming eyes are lifted up.
--14 There is a generation whose teeth are swords and whose jawbones are slaughtering knives, to eat up the afflicted ones off the earth and the poor ones from among mankind.

The Bible indicates we are indeed in the "Last Days" of this sick & worldy system that God does not approve of!.

(2 Timothy 3:1-5) 3 But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, 3 having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, 4 betrayers, headstrong, puffed up [with pride], lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power; and from these turn away. "

--When you expressed your concern on the Jesus Camps--I noticed some responses that indicated they were not aware of what was going on, in those sick scenario's

--It is important that when we are facing issues that we indeed know how to survive them. The Bible's clear guidelines are of great importance to obtain and follow.

--There is a book especially written for young people. It is entitled "QUESTIONS YOUNG PEOPLE ASK-- ANSWERS THAT WORK" put out by Jehovah's Witnesses that you might want to get a copy of --Here is part of the introduction:

*** yp pp. 5-6 Foreword—Answers That Work ***

‘WHY DON’T my parents understand me?’ ‘Should I give drugs and alcohol a try?’ ‘What about sex before marriage?’ ‘How do I know if it’s real love?’ ‘What does the future hold for me?’

You are neither the first—nor the last—youth to ask such questions. However, when young people raise these basic issues, they are often barraged with conflicting answers. For example, drinking alcoholic beverages. Parents may discourage it—though indulging in it themselves. Magazines and TV shows glorify it. Peers encourage you to try it. No wonder, then, that many youths are genuinely perplexed as to just what they should do.

Recognizing the need for honest, workable answers to the questions of today’s youth, Awake! magazine inaugurated a feature entitled “Young People Ask . . . ” in January 1982. The series immediately drew a favorable reader response. “The series is evidence of your continued interest in the plight of young people today,” wrote one appreciative reader. “I hope and pray that these articles never end,” wrote another.

Yet another young reader put it this way: ‘I am 14 years old and I never knew growing up could be so hard. There is so much pressure on young kids today. That is why I am very grateful for the articles. Every night I thank God for having them published.’ The articles, however, were not childish, nor was any attempt made to “write down” to our readers. “Young People Ask . . . ” thus found an appreciative audience among adults. “I am 40 years of age,” wrote one parent. “These articles are truly godsends to us parents.” Christian elders found them particularly useful in understanding young ones in congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses and in dealing with them.

Why has “Young People Ask . . . ” triggered such enthusiastic response? The answers given really work! Each article is the product of extensive research. Furthermore, in order to determine just how young people really think and feel, Awake! reporters have spoken to hundreds of young people all over the world! Their candid expressions have been of great help in making the articles realistic and practical.

However, the real secret to the success of “Young People Ask . . . ” lies in the fact that the answers given have been based, not upon theory or personal opinion, but upon the eternal truths found in God’s Word, the Bible. ‘The Bible?’ you may ask. Yes, it has much to say to young people. (See Proverbs, chapters 1-7; Ephesians 6:1-3.) It was inspired by our Creator, who is keenly aware of “the desires incidental to youth.” (2 Timothy 2:20-22; 3:16) And while human society has changed much since Bible times, youthful desires have changed little. The Bible is thus as current as ever. We have endeavored, though, to present the Bible’s counsel in such a way that youths do not feel preached to, but, rather, reasoned with. And while the material has been written primarily with youths among Jehovah’s Witnesses in mind, it can be read and enjoyed by anyone who has respect for the practical wisdom contained in the Bible........."

Since 1989, the printing of this book is over 33 million copies in over 76 languages. Hope this might have been of some enlightment.

PS--If I might have suggested this book last time I answered , please accept my apology--I hope you do not take it as a pressure.--Thanks

A question for people from Generation X or Y: What is your opinion of Baby Boomers? ~~~ Your feelings are your feelings, no matter what, and I could never argue otherwise! But it is not 'philosophy' ('critical thought')), but an error of thought, to attempt to categorize a whole generation of individual, unique, humans, and broad brush 'them' (ony the schizophrenic sees such difference as a 'them', and a 'we', 'us'. We are One!). Such an unphilosophical error of thought is the backbone of genocide, racism, hatred... All symptoms of schizophrenia!

On the bad side:
Kind of soft (but that's been happening to each successive generation as life gets easier). Not very smart.
On the good side:
Very motivated. Very adaptable. More socially aware.

As for the music: Pop has always been bad...

Considering wikipedia says that group's births start about late '90s...you must be pretty young...

Hard to judge any generation before they are grown...when the group hits mid 20s and the real group mentality is seen, then it will be better known... While young, most generations of kids are all very similar, and adults have always complained...

I agree with the recent study that came out which found this generation to be the most narcissistic. They think life is all about them and rarely think about the welfare of others (unless it benefits them in some way).

I think we are over-entertained and under-educated. And seriously out of touch with reality, as experienced by the rest of the world.
