Those clothes are inexpensive and poor quality. They are the opposite of being preppy, ripped is Not preppy, Faded is not preppy, Bleach is not preppy. Why do people think that it is.

Preppy IS NOT "Abercrombie+Fitch"
Preppy is little boutiques that you find in the Hamptons.
The only things that preps wear, are:
+Polos
+Tennis Shoes
+Pleated White Skirts
+Cardigans
Preps wear anything BUT Abercrombie!!

They think this because the clothes are more expensive than lets say, clothes at Dillard. Also, the "rich kids" have probably all abercrombie and hollister so they assume that since that since its what the rich kids wear it must be preppy.

I do think the clothes are very poor in quality, but they're also insanely expensive. You can spend much less at a place like Old Navy and get better quality clothes.

you have a point about the preppy thing but to some people it is expensive.. not everyone has a lot of money.. and abercrombie is more exspensive than say holister and american eagle and some people can't afford that either. they are not expensive compared to high end designers but they are not cheap either.

Regardless of the actual quality, Abercrombie, Hollister, etc. have succeeded in their marketing tactics. They have established their products as being exclusive... and everyone wants exclusivity. They have "created" and image of quality, identified their target market and are hugely successful because of it.
