To procreate, in two sex species, a male or female must, at some point, be attracted to the opposite sex, and mate with it. Because this is the way it goes most of the time, it would be silly not to think there were a biological factor involved in sexual attraction.
We do not yet know what controls this at a genetic level. I think homosexuality has a genetic basis, much the same way heterosexuality does.
This does not mean that two homosexuals who have children together will produce homosexuals. After all, most homosexuals had heterosexual parents.
If there is a gene which causes homosexuality, it must be recessive. It may be the case that this gene doesn't cause homosexuality alone, but simply makes someone suspetible to becoming homosexual if exposed to certain environmental conditions, or perhaps even a virus. It's thought to be this way with many things. That isn't to say that suddenly a 35 year old straight man will wake up one day and be homosexual. Most homosexuals report that their feelings towards the same sex developed at an early age and don't link them to any particular even in their life.
People do not choose to be homosexual or heterosexual. They may choose only their actions. You cannot choose what attracts you, you can just acknowledge that it does.

do you know anyone gay or lesbian? or (sorry, I mean no offense here...) do you believe in all the stereotypes you hear?
I wish I had a dollar for every time someone asks such a question. there is no "choice" or "influence." if there was, I wouldn't be a lesbian. and, even with more people coming to their senses and becoming more accepting, there's still a lot of bigotry out there. do you think we'd "choose" to be gay with people out there who hate us...discriminate against us...and even want to hurt or kill us? not hardly! I believe it is genetic....like eye, hair or skin color. you don't have to have a gay parent to be gay...just like having a red haired kid when you're both brunettes. I must dispell the stereotypes people claim "made" me lesbian. I was born to straight parents, who were married 29 yrs before my father passed away. I was never molested, abused or raped. I didn't know anyone openly gay or lesbian growing up. I was never "hurt" by a guy, because I never dated any. I don't hate men at all. I have lots of male friends. I've simply never been attracted to men, only women. I don't know how well you did in biology, but genetics isn't something that's "spread" like a disease. it's inherited through dna. ever here of dominant and recessive genes? gays have been around as long as there have been humans...the majority born to straight parents. I know you don't "believe" that people are born destined to one sexuality or another....but you haven't walked in our shoes.
were you born straight? or, when did you choose to be? what influenced you to be heterosexual?

My personal opinion is that no one is Born "gay"...and it is not genetic, of course its a choice, and has everything to do the influences the persn has had growing up, and if if were genetic, then more of their children would be born gay..Bu thats just not the case. Yes, this is a very intresting question.....I belive this because it is not biblical...or even ethical..but thats my opion..I love all people but just dont like some peoples choices(and i think that being gay is a choice)..and maybe some dont like mine..but thats how life is i guess..

Sexuality is a continuum. No one is 100% attracted at all times under all situations to any particular gender. In some situations (i.e. prison) people may engage in homosexual BEHAVIOR. It's simple. Sexual orientation is usually, but not always, determined at a very young age...sometimes even before adolescence. No one "chooses" what sex they are attracted sexually to. They may "choose" what gender to have sexual BEHAVIOR with, however. Behavior and orientation are 2 different things. Anecdotal speaking, all of the people that are homosexual in orientation have told me that they were physically attracted to their same gender at a very early age. "Heterosexual" adolescents often experiment with homosexual behavior often out of curiosity over their own hormones BEFORE they feel "safe" enough to "experiment" with the opposite sex. I am a heterosexual female and have felt emotional attraction to other females at times but have not felt "sexual" attraction for them. I think it's primarily biological, maybe having to do with brain chemistry, not necessarily genetics. I think adults should love who they love.

funny with your prediction about the lack of america's future population :D. Anyways, i think that being gay would be influenced by drugs or some other nasty substance, because although God has each of our life plans, he lets us makes our own choice, so the gay people have a CHOICE to be gay (no offense, but i think they chose the wrong choice :)). Therefore, i think that every gay person had the choice to, but they decided to choose a...umm...........intresting choice that allowed them to be umm.....how do i put this.........umm....a "socially unaccpetable" person... (oh, dont report abuse for this, but im just stating my opinion: i think that gay marrige is creepy and would influence the young, innocent, children

i think it has something to do with emotions too . i remembered my science teacher telling us that in every female there is a little touch of maculinity and in males a little touch of femininity . and sometimes females taps too much on that masculinity that they ended being lesbian because they embraced it more than their femininity . so i don't think it is genetics but a mix of influences and environment . like my cousin she used to be girly and flirty with all the guys but when she turned 16 suddenly she liked girls . she was then living with her aunt who's a lesbian .

I basically chose being gay. I just found other dudes to be way hotter (especially the buff ones) and they were way more interesting "down below" (let's face it there's really not much to a woman below the waist.......)..sorry ladies I'm taken...but not by you...hahaha
