“Although we say we value freedom of expression, most of us are not really very tolerant of people who express unpopular ideas or act in nonconforming ways.”

I once told someone I felt that national borders were unnatural and should be removed. Humans had been migrating to where the resources were available since the beginning of time. He never spoke to me again after his rather hideous verbal explosion. Apparently he has a deep seated fear of immigrants "stealing" his job (which he does not do well, so he may have a valid fear there).

Yes, it's an unpopular concept and whenever I voice it I am immediately verbally attacked. Usually with petty insults and rather blatant examples of the other person's rampant xenophobia. Sometimes I luck out and just get a bunch of 'thumbs down' if I voice the concept here rather than out loud in public. ;-p

You are SO right! Here...have a star. I get REALLY worked up over any type of bigotry or racism but I DO hold stereotypes. We ALL do and are lying to ourselves if we think we don't. I get worked up because I think that it's ignorance that's the root cause of bigotry and ignorance is nothing more than fear and having a "lazy mind." ...people who just believe what they are spoon-fed and never taking the time or energy to hear or read anything that opposes their way of believing. I am prejudiced against "lazy brains." HA

Yes a perfect example of this is real vampirism. Most people don't believe it anyways and the ones that do get the image of the way hollywood makes them look. Basically they are normal people with a different lifestyle that people look down opon. Another example is g o t h s, "punks", and emos.
