Kingdom Protista is so diverse because it is a "catch-all" kingdom for the species that don't belong in any of the other kingdoms. So Kingdom Protista includes the fungus-like slime molds, the plant-like algae, and the animal-like protozoa.

The animal kingdom is diverse, too. It includes the invertebrates and the vertebrates. Animals vary from the simple sponges with no nerves or tissues up through all the levels of complexity.
