2/10=5 which means that the length will be 5 times as much as the original which is 20 inches.

Well, I'm not sure if there's something I'm missing here, because I'm only a 7th grade Algebra student... but if I'm correct it's really quite simple!

The original length was 4 inches and the original width was 2 inches.
Now if you enlarge a picture, and the new width is 10 inches, that's 5x the original width.
For the picture to remain proportionate, you need to multiply the length by 5 as well.

Therefore, your new width is 10 inches as stated in the problem, and your length is 20 inches. I hope this helped!

for #2 -the original ratio is 2:1 (length:width) so the new would have the same ratio....we know the new width is 10 therefore the new length would have to be 2*width = 20

not sure what you need to know for #1 - yes the triangles are similar - what is the question - I must be missing something here

The scale factor is 5. When you multiply by a whole number ( not zero) you are enlarging the figure. If you multiply by a fraction you are shrinking the figure. Similar figures are always in proportion.
