That's the problem (or benefit) with statutory rape laws.

The feelings and intentions of the people involved don't matter. The law imposes strict criminal liability, based solely on age.

It doesn't even matter if she always consented, and even if she decides to marry him in four years. He gets the label "sex offender" based on the statutory definition of the crime.

And he will be treated no different than if he had forcibly raped a two-year old baby. That's the problem with the label "sex offender" -- it is so broad as to be meaningless.

!9 is considered adult and 14 is a child . . .
He must be veryyyyyy stupid , but that's common .
If the 14 yr old is too immature also to make the proper decision ( not to be involved with adult males) then ,
The parents have the obligation to take action because being a baby momma younger than 18 does not even work in a third world country any more , let alone a country that is developed and requires education . They would have a grand baby doomed to poverty and suffering because the 14 yr old was toooooo selfish to care about anything but having a boyfriend.
He is a predator if he dates girls 5 years younger that are just barely past grade school.
He is a sex offender , and is not likely to change.
The parents have all my sympathy that their teen was soooo irresponsible and unable to choose an honorable path.

Absolutly rediculous. If a 19 year old gos out with a 14 year old and they both give full consent of the relationship and it is true love. Who the hell has the right to stop them, and it's only a 5 year difference. How is Romeo considered a sex offender? It's not like he kidnapped her and raped her. Except that's what everyones going to think when they find out. The sad thing is these situations really happen. Except the names are most likely not Romeo and juliet.

There is no place for a 19 y.o. having a relationship with a 14 y.o. unless of course he is mentally unbalanced.

Romeo/Juliet would be 17 and 18 or 19.
