I'm just curious if anyone felt totally exhausted before they went into labor. I was sent home from the hospital sunday in "early labor", have period like cramps, a horrible backache and have never felt so tired in my life. No nesting here, just wondering if anyone else experienced something like this before going into labor.

With my first I started having contractions (looking back they were probably Braxton Hicks which merged into early labour) on the Friday before my son was born. I had period like pain all day and just lay on the couch. I had contractions on and off for the next 4 days and by Wednesday I was completely exhausted because I hadn't had much sleep for the four nights previous. I went to have an antenatal check and they said I was 3cm dilated. I was elated! At least something was happening.

I had had my show on Monday so was expecting to have my baby that day but by Wednesday when I still didn't have my baby, I said to the midwives, I need to do something to have this baby or have some sleep! They sent me home with some sleeping pills so that I could have a decent sleep. I slept solidly for 2hrs then woke up in active labour. My son was born after 5hrs labour.

I think all the on and off contractions that I'd had during the latent phase of labour (the ones that exhausted me) were what made my active labour so short. I also had no drugs and the adrenalin that kicks in when your body is suffering pain and stress really works! I was on such a high after having my baby, I was buzzing for 3wks!!

Good luck! You can do this!!!!

Yes Yes and Yes. All three of my pregnancy's. Like a week before I went into labor I felt as though I could not move from the couch. My boss at work was the exact same way. Thats sorta how I knew that labor was near.

I was so horribly exhausted before all three of my boys. With my first, I just layed on the couch all day long, I couldn't even force my self to get up to eat. My husband would bring me things to sip on and snack on, I didn't watch TV or read, I just layed there. The same with my next two, but of course I had children to take care of. I do remember that we orderd pizza and chinese for dinner and they just had snacks, I just used the TV to help keep them company, I couldnt' move. I went into labor the next morning with all three.

Usually there is a burst of "nesting" energy, and then you're really tired. Or so I've heard. I've had that burst of energy for three weeks now, and am getting induced tomorrow. I've had contractions on and off for 3 days, and am way over my due date, so it's finally time to do something.

But not everyone gets that burst of energy, so keep that in mind.

Yes. I didn't experience the whole nesting thing either. I was pretty tired carrying around all of that extra weight in front toward the end as well.
