I love how some people talk about his season with the Pirates and then his 73 home run season as "all of as sudden". It took 16 seasons of HARD WORK for him to do what he did, and just because his PR hasnt always been the greatest doesnt mean that he is the "bad guy" that does steroids. No one got this much on Mark Mcgwire @$$ about steroids. If you ask me Bonds is the greatest player to ever play the game, and if only Giants fans understand that now, maybe he will be respected in the future. And by the way... Steroids or not, you can not have steroids be the reason for his greatness, records, and achivement. Come complain to me when every player who ever has used steroids are put under the same microscope for the same amout of time as Bonds has been.

Erase the entire MLB history for a decade or more then. Cuz tons of players used the stuff. If you want it that way, cancel the entire thing, forget it happened. Don't single out one player because he's close to the big record, clear it all from your memories. I know punishing Bonds will somehow make naive people feel better about putting a final conclusion to the 'steroids era' but that's just silly. Why aren't you guys pushing to get Jason Giambi kicked out?? He admitted to steroids and you ignore him lol. Let's have some consistency with our crazy ideas please. And remember, the only proof you really have is that he grew. Lol Sasan, the Angels didn't destroy the Giants, it was a good 7 game series. And I'm not a Bonds lover or a Giants fan. You're obviously way too angry of a person to discuss things normally so I'll end it there.

Sex steroids, like testosterone, can be absorbed through the skin pretty readily. Chemically, testosterone and estrogen are pretty similar and you may know that estrogen birthcontol hormones can be administered using a skin patch.
The type of cream make by BALCO, and which Bonds pretty much admitted he took, is a new form of steroid that until recently could not be detected by standard drug tests. It was probably easier to administer it as a creme instead of formulating it into a pill or having someone inject it.

Steroids can come in cream form, but he injected as well. His helmet, glove and shoe sizes have all gotten bigger; all indicating that he took HGH- the same substance responsible for changing babies into full-grown adults. Since it's a natural hormone, it can't be tested for; which explains his squeaky-clean record. It increases muscle mass and strips off fat. There aren't many side-effects either; it's like some kind of super-steroid.

It is clear he took steroids and further to that, it is also obvious he did not use any cremes but rather injected himself (to avoid liver and kidney problems).
Anyone in the bodybuilding industry knows this.

Ok Steve....Bond's rookie year to his 73 HR year = 16 seasons....That's a Hell of a lot of time to bulk up...That's why MLB teams have people called "Trainers" Ever heard of them.
As far as answering the question...I don't know anything about steroids...just had to comment on Steve's non-relative answer.
