I was just rejected from my dream school of UCSB. I already bought a wetsuit, a longboard, and a cruiser bike, so I am devastated. Now, I have to look to Davis or Irvine. I am a bio major and from the S.F. bay area. Can someone tell me some pros about both schools b/c all I have heard of Irvine is that there are a ton of asians and is a commuter school and that Davis is just boring in general. Which school has better parties? Please help me be a little more optimistic about the two schools I did get into. Any ways to cope with the rejection?

sorry if i seem over dramatic, I'm just really sad.

Both are boring.

Yes, Irvine is a commuter school that's full of Asians. Other than not having any school spirit, the asian thing isn't a big deal. It's not like the place is like Chinatown or anything. All the UCs have pretty large asian populations.

Davis is in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere. Depending on where you are, you WILL smell the cows on campus every day. The parties are definitely better in Davis, primarily because there's no where to go and nothing to do. It gets old after a while though. Lots more sports to do, again, cuz there's nothing to do. Next major city is Sacramento, which is a pretty boring town to be honest. The most fun shopping thing to do is the little Gap store and Borders book store. Nearest decent mall is 45 min away in Roseville (past Sacramento). It's also 110+ in the summer, and 30 and below in the winter. Tons of people bike so you can still use your cruiser bike.

Irvine, cuz it's a commuter school, doesn't have as much stuff going on oncampus. However, Irvine's a major city. It's also a rich city so the whole area's nice. When I moved into the apartment I was in my last two years, we didn't lock the front door the entire two years. And we lived in the most "ghetto" apartment complex near school. South Coast Plaza, IMO, the nicest mall in all of SoCal (and I'm from SoCal) is just minutes away. You say you bought a wetsuit, longboard, and cruise bike? Well, since the beach is just about 2 or 3 miles away, no big deal. Also, there are still plenty of kids who dorm. Perfect weather of course. Only UC with better weather is UCSD.

Irvine's known for bio. The stupid school is so heavily science based, they voted for a brand new science library instead of a football team when I was there.

In both schools, the local city police are like the freaking Gestapo. Davis even has bike police to run down pedestrians and bikers. You might also check to see if the midget cop is still there. Irvine cops will pull you over if your car is too crappy for the neighborhood.

To be honest, I really prefer Irvine way more than Davis even tho I live in NorCal now. I'd much rather be near the beach, celebrities, and wealth than literally isolated in a farm that gets extreme temps.

Oh, to help you feel better, I need to talk trash about SB. Pretty easy, actually. SB is nearly as isolated as Davis. That's why it's such an awesome party school. There's nothing else to do. Have you been to SB? It's freaking boring there cuz it's so isolated. Yes, it's awesome being next to the beach. Unless you're a hardcore surfer (I don't think you are since you only just bought a suit and board), you'll get bored of it for a while. Irvine's got a beach too anyways. Had you gone to SB, I bet you'd be clawing your way back to the Bay Area during the breaks. Especially if your friends go back home.

I'd still rank it Irvine, Davis, and SB. If you forced me to give you another ranking, I'd still make it Davis, Irvine, and still SB last.

you probably did no longer state your SAT rankings, SAT subject tests or your classification rank for ELC (excellence in close by context). what number AP instructions you took and how many AP instructions ought to you have taken? finally, in the journey that your college does not have a competent acceptance with the UC device your overall performance won't carry as plenty weight as a school's graduates that went directly to succeed college scholars.
