You make an excellent point in that the Colts and Pats are currently the two power house teams, and they have had some amazing games in the past, but this year I'm looking forward to a couple of games. First: Broncos Vs. Chargers...I'm biased as I am a Broncs fan, but Denver will arguably have one of the best d's, and mostly d secondary in the league if they hang on to Dre' Bly, they have an amazing safety, who next to Polomalu and Reed is one of the best in the league, and Champ Bailey. Pair that next to the high powered Charger offense, and LT and that will be an exciting game. Plus two unseasoned QB's against each other. Second is Vikings Vs. Packers: again a Vikes fan, but I believe that these two teams will be battling over the No. 1 Draft pick this year. The vikings have done nothing in FA and have not made a move as of yet to move up in the draft for Calvin Johnson. If they draft Brady Quinn like experts are projecting they are screwed. and Green Bay will have Farve again, and that right there is enough to call their season a wash. So we have a Conference championship game and a game to shape the start of the 08' draft.

That's a pretty good question. It actually made me stop and think for a second because I automatically thought "Redskins and Cowboys" before I had a chance to read the details in your question.
In terms of today's game, and in terms of the general public, I think you're absolutely right. Redskins and Cowboys fans get incredibly into the games when those two teams clash, but as a whole, the general NFL audience doesn't get into it as much. But games between the Colts and Pats are really interesting for fans of all sorts considering their past clashes, the high profile players on both teams, etc. For me, being a fan of the Redskins, I'm more into their rivalry with the Cowboys, but if you were to look at the NFL as a whole, and try to throw bias and favorite teams out the window, I think Colts and Pats take the cake.

No. Every time they meet it is an essential game, as they are always top teams.
As a Giants fan, I love the rivalry with Dallas. Err... and Phili. And can't forget the Redskins.
The fact of the matter is, though, that the Colts and Pats are not natural enemies. They have a "rivalry" only because they seem to always play great games against each other, and they are always good teams. I'd rather watch that kind of rivalry than, say, watching the Browns get steamrolled by Pittsburg.

I personally think the biggest rivalry in the league has got to be the Patriots and the Jets. It just seems like Patriots coach Bill Billichick and the Jets coach Eric Mangini hate each others guts. I live in New England and am a Oakland Raiders fan. All the local media went nuts when these to teams hooked up twice last season and it will be more intense this season. Playing the same twice a year makes for a bigger rivalry.

Oakland Raiders VS Denver Broncos
This has always been a big rivalry. Bronco players going to Oaklnad, Raider coaching staff going to Denver. But even though the Raiders had a 2-14 record last year they still lead the rivalry with a 53-38-2 record.

and the winner is...
Steelers vs. Browns.
It doesn't matter if it's the first game of the season or if it's week 15 and the browns (usually eliminated by week 9). The steeler players and true fan base hate this long rivalry. I'd kill myself if I had to move to Cleveland. I went to last year's game at home (in pittsburgh) and watch Fast Willie Parker just run wild all over the Terds, I mean browns.
I must admit though. I do hate cincy and baltimore and I was born too,(just like to hate the Browns and Philadelphia!).

I agree with you there the Colts vs. Patriots is one of the best current rivalry in the NFL today. Another great rivalry would have to be the Bengals vs. Ravens.
