It just depends on how your professor works at the university you are going to. Currently my Organismic Biology professor will give us lecture exams that covers about 7-9 chapters and anywhere from 250-300 pages. There can be about 20-40 pages per chapter. My exams are true/false and multiple choice and they are always 50 questions. It is a totally different test when you take your lab practical though. I personally think your lab practical is harder than the exam.

The lab practical is usually comprised of the different things you discuss in lab. Yes, some things from lecture are covered, but lab usually has different stuff. Most lab practicals will have stations set up and you start at one and usually have 30 seconds to one minute per station to answer the question and you just work your way around the room. My lab practicals always have 50 questions (notice a trend? ;) and are usually fill in the blank/ give a one word answer describing usually the structure and function of an organ on a dissection or identify the taxonomic levels of an organism...

Sorry this was so lengthy, but that is my experience so far, but once again...it totally depends on your university and professor. Hope this helps!

I am a biology major, and generally, the exams in my biology classes cover about 1/4 to 1/3 of the material in the class, because there are only 3 or 4 tests for the entire semester. As an example, my ecology class that I took last semester had about 7-10 chapters per test, and each chapter was anywhere from 15-30 pages. But it isn't as hard as it sounds, because most of the questions are essays or short answers that ask a question, and you need to take concepts from the chapters and use them to answer the question. Because it is short answer/essay, you can miss part of the question and still get credit for the things you get correct, unlike multiple choice, which is hit or miss. However, there are a few multiple choice questions, but to be honest, they are the most difficult multiple choice questions I've ever seen. It isn't like in high school where one answer is obvious and the rest are completely ridiculous. All of the answers seem plausible, and they can be pretty tough. If you study well in advance of the test, it isn't incredibly difficult, and there isn't too much to worry about. Usually, when I get points taken off, it's because I didn't explain something well enough, not because I got the concept wrong. Just don't be lazy in writing your answers, and you'll be okay.

Anywhere from 3-5 or 6 chapters, and anywhere from 60-150 pages or more. It'll really depend on the class and the material. Again, depending on the class, exams will be 4-7 pages of short answer and longer essays. Occasionally a few multiple choice, but mostly describe, discuss or explain or "what would happen when or if...."

ASK THE TEACHER WHAT SUBJECT MATTER FOR THE TEST IS THEN KNOW THAT SUBJECT.
