This site says they arrive in April. With changing climate, you might want to put the feeders out at the beginning of April to catch the early arrivals.

The best food to use is made by boiling one cup sugar in four cups of water. Let it cool. Don't put any food coloring in it. The birds will come to the red on your feeders. If you put the feeders in the same place as last year, they will find the feeders very quickly.

We already are seeing both Ruby-throats and Black-chinned Hummingbirds in Texas. I would go ahead and hang your feeders in the next week or so.

As far as nectar goes, homemade is best for the birds. Use one part sugar to 4 parts boiling water. Be sure to let it cool before putting it out. Its important to keep the feeder very clean. Change the water every 2 or 3 days, especially when its hot. Red food coloring is not good for the birds. The store bought necter is overpriced.

Good luck! I hope you see them soon.
