Good question.

I think human means to be able to recognize your differentials. A human has the ability to talk, think, act, and react. A human has the ability to recognize importance. This gives them the option to make decisions whether they are right or wrong. A human also has the ability to error.
This is the grandest thing that makes you human.
"I am only human...I am allowed to make mistakes."
This is true. This is were your conscious takes place.
Animals live, dwell, eat, make sounds, create life, and evolve.
But our thinking ability and compacity to take in information, understand and react to it allows us to be human.
Humans also posses the ability to feel affection and compassion. Humans feel sympathy and empathy. Our ability to care and display emotions sets us apart from other species thus making us HUMAN.

Humanity is divine. This is GOD's best attempt to recreate pure likeness. GOD's intervention on life produces humanity.

When asked this question I like to point to the part in the Time Machine by H.G. Wells where a girl is drowning and no one, except the time traveler, does anything about it. And also the book 1984 by George Orwell, when the main character steps over a dead body without any thought and later comments that he is not human. I feel that what defines us as human is our capacity, not necessarily our tendency thought, to feel concern for those around us.

I think that there are many things that make us human. im a Christian..so thats what i believe. i believe one of the things that make us human in this world today is that we are all fallible but we could still be human without it. to be human means to have the capability to do good works and to do bad things, to have feelings of anger, fury, frustration, sadness, sorrow, happiness, and joy. i what makes us human are the good things we do. to do cruelty and do works of meanness is not to be human but to be dead. but humans are all fallible but it is not a trait we need to be a human...but its ones of the things that make us who we are...because being fallible can also mean that we can also do good things. The definition of a human materialisticly would just be having life and being male or female and having the characteristics of a living human. and i think that connects to th definition of human beyond this world. having life is to do good things and to be dead mean u killed urself slowly with the cruelty u did, and the characteristics of a human are the feelings and having the choice to let those feelings get out of hand or not.

thats my definition of HUMAN according to my own understanding.
