Go ahead and renew Norton, I would recommend upgrading to Norton Systemworks. It's the only software norton has that is good and it compliments their antivirus protection. Stay away from Norton Internet Security, it's not that great. Anyways Norton Systemworks is the 2nd best program to get. If you looking to get the best then go for Spysweeper with AntiVirus. It's far and above the best out there. It blocks, guards, and shields over 170,600 threats. Nothing else can compare or even match half of that. You can change antivirus anytime you want and everything will be fine. Also stay away from AVG and anything else that is free, especially when its antivirus and spyware. There is a reason why they are free. They are not good.

Tried Norton once ,never again ,couldn't deal with a virus not even quarantine it . It uses too much system resources . Using McCafee at the moment with no probs. Have heard good reports on Nod 32, supposedly the no1, will certainly be checking that one out.

It's up to you. If you can afford it, then just go for it. Norton is quite a good software. If not, just search on the Internet as there are many free Anti Virus softwares out there as well.

Don't do it, especially if you have more than one hard drive.
Try AVG Anti-Virus, it's free and I find it's been a much better product. It doesn't slow down your computer.
Honestly, use anyone other than Norton. Experience taught me that Norton's "online technical help" do not know what they are doing. Long story short . . . my final cost was almost $500 to have my information retrieved from the hard drive.

Norton, like all other commercial security solutions has a notification system which will alert you a while in advance to the subscriptions lapse, plenty of time to go to the website and renew via paying the price a term license. If you have a version older than 2005 it is time to update the product to a current version. Older applications do not have the most recent advances in this technology, and as such should be upgraded on a yearly basis. However, a good rule of thumb is if older than two years upgrade to the most current version. It costs the same as just renewing the subscription and brings new features and abilities.

Go to the website and click on the link for purchases and then follow the instructions outlined. Here is the link, and you will find right on the Home page information about renewing your subscription.

Listen, please don't listen to anybody whe reccomends changing out your solution. You see, it is very difficult, at best, to remove any particular solution from a system. This is due to the fact virus and firewall programs must embed deeply into the OS in order to carry out the procedures of protection. Due to this deep embedding, it is VERY difficult to fully remove this software. This software can't be removed by the Windows Add/Remove programs applet, and even if you use the vendors "Special" removal tool, which each vendor has, pieces, fragments, orphaned files, icons, shortcuts, ect, are left behind in the OS, on the hard drive and in the Registry. If you don't fully remove the software, and often you simply have no real way of knowing if it is or not, and then install a different vendors product, serious problems ensue. The least of these problems is system instabliity, inadequent protection and computer OS crashes are the result, as well as incompatibility with other installed software, routers, adapters, etc.

As you have Norton installed already just keep it and do what you plan by renewing your subscription. I don't particularily like Norton or Symantec myself, but the lessor evil is to keep what is currently installed rather than chance all of the above problems by changing it out.

Good luck and have a great evening!

p.s. If you are extremely experianced with working in the registry, then you can chance trying to manually remove the Norton Anti-Virus program IF you are determined to install a different solution. However, if you do not have the experiance then please do not touch the registry as that is a clear road to killing a system. Don't listen to anybody who tells you to go messing around in the registry. It is very sensitive and vital to the function of the OS and deleting even one wrong key can kill your OS, causing the need to reinstall it. You would lose vital information and lost productivity in all the information you stand to lose and the time and money to reinstall the OS. It is simply not worth the risks involved to poke around in the registry.

I wouldn't renew it. Norton's very resource-heavy and not too efficient. To remove it properly you need Symantec's own removal tool: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Try Zone Alarm as a firewall, AVG 7.5 as anti-virus & Ad-Aware SE Personal plus Spybot S&D as antimalware programs. All effective, efficient and FREE too!
