Why we the Americans, were going to declare independence.
"When in the course of human events it becomes necessary for a people to dissolve the political bands which have united them with another..." Thomas Jefferson begins, it is only decent to explain to the world why we are going to do this.
Also, the Declaration set forth certain natural laws, laws that ever one knows, laws that no one needs to "pass."
"We hold these truths to be self-evident: 1) That all men are created equal, 2) That they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, 3) That among these are life, liberty, and the pusuit of happiness, 4) That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just power from the consent of the governed."
Finally, Jefferson sets forth case after case in which "the present King of Great Britain" has abused the colonists and their rights.
You should read the Declaration of Independence! It's really quite a short and exciting read!
