There are actually 6 main branches of our Armed Forces
Coast Guard
Navy
Marines
Army
Air Force
& The Reserve units of the 5
There are more than "1" in the fact that they all serve specific tasks, and are structured to do so capably.
As far as differences, they are all basically the same, except in their MOS's.{Military Occupational Specialties) That and the Marines do not have a 5-star general/admiral.
What/why are you joining should be your first question. If looking to pick up a good civilian skill, join USAF or USN. If wanting combat, USA or USMC. If you want to stay close to home (never a sure deal) USCG.
Each branch will tell ye that they are better. As a Marine, we needed the Navy for transport, the Air Force for supply & support & the Army to relieve us from securing operations. Marines do not have a medical corps, so the other 3 also patched us up or hospitilized us.
Either way, ye can't go wrong with a military background!

the perfect CQC is in all probability the army Seals, yet it is an particularly small team and that they are very selective. the perfect shot on your standard joe to get stable CQC instruction is in the marines. -The military has the perfect return and forth, and that they infrequently sees their objectives. -The Air stress has the perfect high quality of existence and instruction, and does a rapid flyover of their objectives. -the army and marines see the main action and face their objectives, hence they quite have a much better mortality fee.

Without getting into military histoy and the reasons for the various branches of the service, I would select Air Force.
I did, over 30 years ago, for the educational benifits and training. . .

i would never join for my own personal reasons but if you want to than go for it. go down to a recruiting office and get some pamphlets and talk to someone from each branch before you decide though. remember it is not a job that you can just quit if you dont like it.

not all the military is about carrying a weapon but rather the backbone of any military branch is those who support them and I'd bet with a little searching and talking to recruiters you'd be amazed at career opportunities there are.
