I think this has to do with what society has taught us. As a general rule, white people have been seen as the "dominant race". Now I'm not trying to be offensive to anyone here, it's just the way it's been. I personally think it sucks but that's my opinion. But how would you feel if you were in their position. People don't like to be judged like that or to be put in a category they don't belong in. We do the same thing with Hispanic people too. Even I find myself calling someone Mexican when they could very well be Spanish, Puerto Rican, etc. I think we just need to realize that some people are more sensitive to these things than others and just be respectful of that.

It is true, white people are hard to distinguish (if they are British, American, German, etc).

But Asians do have a distinctive look between different areas. Like Chinese, look a little different from Japanese, or from Koreans, or from Thai, or from Filipinos. There is a distinct difference if one is observant. But perhaps to the Caucasians looking at Asians, "they all look the same".

That is why Asians are defensive as to what ethnic group they come from. And to differentiate Caucasians, listening to them talk will many times give away where they are from.
